Ils Device To Be Installed In Diyarbakir Airport

DIYARBAKIR - An Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be installed in the Diyarbakir Airport in December.
Turkish authorities are discussing installation of the ILS in Diyarbakir Airport since January 8th, 2003 when a plane crash killed 75 people.
The ILS is a ground-based instrument approach system which provides precise guidance to an aircraft approaching a runway, using a combination of radio signals and, in many cases, high-intensity lighting arrays to enable a safe landing during instrument meteorological conditions (IMC), such as low ceilings or reduced visibility due to fog, rain, or blowing snow.
Executives at the Diyarbakir Airport said they have to cancel many flights due to fog during winter since there is no ILS at their airport.
"ILS makes it easier for pilots to land. So, fewer flights will be cancelled after ILS is installed," they also said.
