ANKARA - Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industries works on a new and a more modern rifle which will replace Turkish army`s G3 rifles, Undersecretary Murad Bayar said.
Defense Industries Executive Committee is expected to make a final decision on developing a new rifle --suitable for guerrilla fighting-- to be manufactured with advanced technologies, Bayar told the A.A.
"G3 rifles accomplished their missions. They were made for standing army fighting. In fact this weapon is very forcible but it is a little bit heavy and hard to care. We need a weapon that is lighter and easy-to-care for, which could be also used in guerrilla fighting," Bayar added.
