ANKARA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul left for Pakistan on a two-day formal visit on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters at Ankara`s Esenboga Airport prior to his departure, Gul said Turkey strongly supported Pakistan`s fight against terrorism and its democratization process.
Underscoring historical friendship ties between Turkey and Pakistan, Gul said the two countries supported each other in the most difficult times.
Gul said the visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Pakistan since the foundation of Pakistan and noted that the visit would be a means to underscore solidarity between Turkey and Pakistan in the highest level.
Gul said he would be the first president visiting Pakistan after Musharraf took office for the second time as president.
President Gul said he would meet Musharraf in Islamabad on Monday and will have the opportunity to assess bilateral relations as well as cooperation and regional matters.
Gul said activities as regards to the political and economic dimensions of the Ankara process, initiated by Turkey aiming to contribute to progress of relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, would be reviewed.
Gul also said he would meet executives of the leading political parties in Pakistan.
