ANKARA - Turkish General Staff said on Saturday that Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) would take any necessary military measures to neutralize terrorists in north of Iraq within the scope of the authorization it has been given.
According to a press release posted in its internet site, General Staff said the first operation within this scope was launched on Saturday, noting that operations would continue depending on intelligence gathered .
"TSK has been authorized on cross-border operation as of November 28th, 2007. The first operation was launched on December 1st, 2007 within this scope. The operations target only the PKK KONGRA-GEL terrorist organization, they are not against people living in north of Iraq nor against local groups unless they commit an act of enmity against the Turkish Armed Forces," the statement said.
