ANKARA - The Turkish Supreme Military Board (YAS) has convened at the headquarters of the General Staff under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.
YAS`s second regular meeting in 2007 began at 09.50 hours on Thursday.
The meeting is being attended by PM Erdogan, Chief of General Staff Gen.Yasar Buyukanit, Minister of National Defense Vecdi Gonul, Land Forces Commander Gen.Ilker Basbug, Naval Forces Commander Vice Admiral Muzaffer Metin Atac, Air Forces Commander Gen. Aydogan Babaoglu, Gendarmerie Commander Gen. Isik Kosaner, Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Ergin Saygun, First Army Commander Gen. Ismail Kocman, Second Army Commander Gen. Hasan Igsiz, Third Army Commander Gen. Saldiray Berk, Aegean Army Commander Gen. Necdet Ozel, Land Forces Command General Staff Officer Gen. Atila Isik, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Esref Ugur Yigit, War Academies Commander Gen. Hasan Aksay and Land Forces Training and Doctrine Commander Gen. Erdal Ceylanoglu.
The two-day YAS meeting will focus on planned activities of the Turkish Armed Forces, including topics such as personnel, training and discipline.
Members of the YAS will visit Ataturk`s Mausoleum "Anitkabir" around noon on Thursday.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul will host a lunch for members of YAS on Thursday.
The decisions of YAS will be submitted to President Gul for approval and then be published by the General Secretariat of the Turkish General Staff.
