LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) waived passport requirement for Greek Cypriots to cross into the TRNC, allowing them to pass to TRNC by showing only their identity cards.
The decision of TRNC authorities which allows European Union (EU) citizens who come to Greek Cypriot side to spend their holiday and Greek Cypriots to cross into TRNC with their identity cards took effect as of Tuesday.
In accordance with the decision of TRNC Council of Ministers, Greek Cypriots started to pass to TRNC with their identity cards as of Wednesday morning, but there was not a busy traffic during crossings.
TRNC will continue to ask passports of non-EU citizens.
Passengers crossing from the Greek Cypriot side to TRNC will use Ledra Palace border gate in Lefkosa and those who want to go to TRNC by vehicles will use Metehan border gate in Lefkosa, Beyarmudu and Akyar border gates near Gazimagusa.
TRNC Council of Ministers had freed crossings between TRNC and the Greek Cypriot side on April 23, 2003.
