BURSA - U.S. Consul General in Istanbul Sharon Anderholm Wiener said Wednesday that PKK is a common enemy of Turkey and the United States.
Wiener paid a courtesy visit to Mayor of Bursa Hikmet Sahin on Wednesday.
"I worked as a teacher in Turkey for a while 30 years ago. I am honored to return to Turkey as a consul general," Wiener told.
"We are in a prominent period from both a global and regional perspective. I am here to contribute to the strength of our relations," Wiener noted.
Meanwhile, Bursa Mayor Hikmet Sahin said that he is pleased to see U.S. Consul General Wiener in Bursa. "There are friendly relations between Turkey and the United States. The continuation of friendly relations between these two countries carries a global importance," Sahin indicated.
"We share common thoughts on political and military topics. In the recent past, there has been an increase in terrorist acts. The dialogue with U.S. officials on terror pleased the Turkish people. We are against all forms of terror. Terror has no language, religion or nation," Sahin stressed.
Answering a question of the A.A correspondent, Wiener remarked that "PKK is an enemy of both Turkey and the U.S. We have formulated systems to eradicate PKK. This is to the benefit of both Turkey and the U.S.," Wiener underlined.
