LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mehmet Ali Talat and TRNC Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer received Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek in separate meetings on Monday.
Gokcek came to Lefkosa to inaugurate the new Lefkosa Municipality Palace and lay down the foundation for a theatre building.
Lefkosa Mayor Cemal Bulutoglulari accompanied Gokcek in today's meetings.
Talat-Gokcek meeting was closed to the press.
Receiving Gokcek, Soyer told reporters that Turkey helps the Turkish Cypriots in all areas. "Turkey's support is crucial in promoting joint interests," Soyer told.
Meanwhile, Gokcek said that the city of Ankara is doing all it can to help the independence of the TRNC and its recognition globally. "We will organize three giant concerts in January in Lefkosa, Gazimagusa and Girne," Gokcek noted.
"In a regular congress of the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities in Ankara, TRNC cities of Lefkosa, Girne and Gazimagusa became members of the organization. This is a great beginning for the TRNC," Gokcek stated.
On the other hand, Cemal Bulutoglulari thanked Gokcek for Ankara's continued support of the TRNC. "After becoming a member of the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities, the three TRNC cities became a member of the European Union of Mediterranean Municipalities," Bulutoglulari indicated.
