ANKARA - Aiming to ensure regional development, Turkey will start to implement several measures in the next 5 years extending from establishment of centers of attraction to development strategies, and to regional development programs.
According to the Action Plan of 2008-2012 period, National Regional Development Strategy will be set up to assist regional development programs, and separately a financing mechanism will be established.
A Regional Development Coordination Board will be established in 2009 to ensure an influential coordination and boost cooperation among main institutions.
In 2009-2010, inter-regional migration tendencies will be assessed, and at the same time strategies and policies will be developed to direct migration tendencies to the centers in question.
Separately, a unit will be established to pursue state assistance.
Inventory record of natural, historical and cultural values in provinces will be completed, and support will be given to publicize historical, cultural and natural riches.
Business and investment opportunities of the regions will be promoted and capital inflow to the regions will be accelerated.
Aiming to ensure rural development, a follow-up and assessment system will be established to monitor and direct the implementations.
Village Law will be renewed in 2009, and Return to Village and Rehabilitation Project will be updated.
Non-agricultural economic activities will be assessed in rural areas and Rural Development Plan will be prepared.
