Final Statement Of 8th Economy Summit Of Turkish Aegean Coasts & Greek Aegean Islands Released

KALAMATA - The final statement of the Eighth Economy Summit of Turkish Aegean Coasts & Greek Aegean Islands held in the Kalamata city of Greece was released on Saturday.
Ekrem Demirtas, the chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Board of Executives, and Georgios Karabatos, the chairman of Messina Chamber of Commerce & Industry, held a joint press conference after the meeting.
Demirtas said he believed that the issues discussed at the summit would bear important results for the two countries and read the final statement.
The final statement included the following topics;
- organization of a campaign in both countries to make the Aegean Sea a "no military flight zone",
- the inclusion of the Aegean province of Izmir (Turkey) in 'the Olive Road' project,
- the granting of a scholarship to two students from each Greek Islands for Izmir Economy University,
- organization of joint events for bringing together the children of the two countries more often,
- to work towards increasing the number of youngsters that can speak both Turkish and Greek languages,
- the formation of a 'Turkish-Greek friendship forest' in the Messina region,
- joint action against natural disasters.
Also, exertion of efforts for getting the support of the Greek government to Izmir's EXPO 2015 candidacy and the holding of the 9th summit in Izmir and the 10th in the Arcadia region of the Peloponnesian peninsula were also included in the final statement.
