Turkey To Be Side To U.N. Framework Agreement On Climate Change

ANKARA - Turkey would be a side to the United Nations (UN) Framework Agreement on Climate Change as of May 24, Turkish Environment and Forestry Ministry said on Saturday.
A statement of the Ministry said that Turkey would officially be a side to the convention as the 189th country on May 24.
Noting that developed countries were given responsibility to achieve the goals of the convention, the statement said that Turkey was considered among developed countries and included in Annex-1 and Annex-2 lists.
The statement noted that Turkey was erased from the Annex-2 list upon its objections in 2001.
The convention was signed in 1992 and entered into force in 1994. Currently, 188 countries and the European Union (EU) are parties to the convention which aims to prevent adverse effects of greenhouse gas emissions on the climate system.
