ANKARA - Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Koksal Toptan said Wednesday "Turkey has to counter terrorism".
Taking the floor at the opening session of the Turkish- European Union (EU) Joint Parliament Commission meeting at the Turkish parliament Toptan told Turkey will not give up its development, democracy and freedom goals when combating terrorism.
He said Turkey goes on with reform process and will not accept any other alternative than full membership.
"Turkey's EU membership will not only contribute to the preservation of the stability and peace in Europe but also help spread of universal values in its own region and beyond," he also said.
Toptan said Turkey's EU membership is also an important step that will help Muslim and Christian communities to learn better about each other.
"An EU that includes Turkey will not only enlarge geographically but also will become a global power", Toptan said.
"We want to further improve our relations with the European Parliament and we are ready to do our best for this," Toptan also said.
