ANKARA - The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey was up 25.6 percent in October 2007 over October 2006.
According to figures of the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK), 2.1 million foreigners arrived in Turkey in October 2007. This figure was 1.7 million in October 2006.
German tourists topped the list of foreigners who visited Turkey in October. Other foreign tourists preferring Turkey as a destination were British, Russian, Dutch, Bulgarian, Iranian, U.S., French, Italian and Georgian nationals.
On the other hand, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey in the first ten months of 2007 was up 18.3 percent over the same period of 2006.
21.1 million foreigners visited Turkey between January and October 2007. This number was only 17.8 million in the same period of 2006.
