Italian, Turkish Academicians Meet In Izmir

IZMIR - Turkish and Italian academicians gathered Tuesday in Aegean city of Izmir for the second conference of Italian Center for Turkish Studies (ICTS) which was launched early November to boost scientific cooperation between the two countries.
Professors Carlo Frappi and Giovanni Ercolani from Italy as well as Canan Balkir, Filiz Baskan and Dragos Mateescu from Turkey took the floor at the conference on "new initiatives for scientific cooperation".
Mateescu, a professor at Izmir University of Economics, said that the center aims to establish a forum for Turkish and Italian analysts, journalists and businessmen.
"We also aim to exchange views regarding Turkey's foreign policy, economy and security," Mateescu said.
ICTS will organize two conferences in Italy in the first quarter of 2008 and then two more in Istanbul and Izmir.
