Turkish Agricultural Sector Increases Its Share In Turkey's Overall National Income, Eker

ROME - Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Mehmet Mehdi Eker said Monday despite a decrease in employment in the agricultural sector, Turkish agricultural sector increased its share in Turkey's overall national income.
In a speech delivered at the 34th Conference of UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Eker noted that "plants not actually consumed by humans must be used for bio-energy purposes. As Turkey, we suggest that member countries pay attention to the utilization of appropriate plants and waste materials in producing bio-energy."
"We must work to eradicate negative consequences of global warming and to increase agricultural production globally," Eker stressed.
Minister Eker mentioned that Turkey is a candidate for membership in the FAO Council.
Eker will return to Turkey on Tuesday evening.
