LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas has said that renegotiation of Annan's plan would be a very serious mistake.
Speaking at a meeting on Thursday, Denktas stressed that it had been confirmed in the twin referenda on April 24 that there were two equal peoples on Cyprus and Greek Cypriots could not represent Turkish Cypriots.
Denktas said that Greek Cypriots who said ''no'' in the referendum proved that they did not want a partnership and they saw Cyprus ''their home farm''.
Noting that promises which said, ''the TRNC will be recognized if Annan's plan is accepted and embargo will be lifted'' had been made to Turkish Cypriots before the referendum, Denktas called on those who made such promises, particularly Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and European Union (EU) countries to keep their promises.
''We expect them to take steps. We will wait and see whether or not we were deceived,'' he said.
Stressing that renegotiation of Annan's plan would be a very serious mistake, Denktas said that Greek Cypriots wanted to make bargaining in order to further dilute Turkish Cypriots' rights so they should not be deceived with this game.
Expressing the necessity for expending efforts on basis of the reality that ''there are two equal peoples and Greek Cypriots do not represent Turkish Cypriots which were confirmed in twin referenda'' for a new compromise, Denktas added, ''with this respect, it is easy to find a solution for border restitution and property issue.''
