Georgian President Says His Country Looking At Cyprus With U.N.'s Point Of View

TBILISI - Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on Wednesday that his country was looking at Cyprus with the point of view of the United Nations (UN).
Saakashvili told A.A correspondent that Georgia would assume the same attitude with the UN towards Cyprus issue.
The result of the simultaneous referenda held in Cyprus on April 24 showed that Turkish Cypriot people wanted peace and were in favor of peace, Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili noted that the sooner Turkey adjusted to the EU, the more everybody, the region and the regional countries would gain.
His country would be beside Turkey in every step it would take on the road to EU membership, Saakashvili added.
TRNC and Greek Cypriot side voted UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem in simultaneous referenda held on April 24.
Sixty-five percent of Turkish Cypriots voted ''yes'' to the Annan plan while 35.09 percent voted against the plan in the simultaneous referenda. A total of 75.83 percent of the Greek Cypriots said ''no'' to the plan while 24.17 of them voted ''yes.''
The rate of participation in the referendum was 84.35 in TRNC and 96.53 percent in the Greek Cypriot side.
Thus, Annan plan was not put into practice in the island.
