ANKARA - May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day is being celebrated throughout Turkey, Turkey's foreign representations and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Wednesday.
Celebrations in Ankara started as senior state officials headed by Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer visited Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk, the Founder of Turkish Republic.
Senior state officials laid a wreath on Ataturk's Mausoleum, observed a minute of silence and sang the National Anthem.
Sezer later signed Anitkabir Special Book. Sezer wrote in the book, ''Turkish youth, which is sincerely devoted to your principles and reforms and which is the guarantee of the future of our country that never deviates from the contemporary civilization path you opened to us in the light of reason and science, will protect and maintain Turkish Republic till eternity.''
Meanwhile, two people wearing religious clothes who were around Anitkabir were detained early on Wednesday.
