YOUTH! EU IS YOUR FIRST TARGET! MARCH FORWARD!
Turkish youth is celebrating this year's May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day with European Union (EU) enthusiasm. Because, Turkey is expecting the EU to firstly give a negotiation date at the end of this year and then accept Turkey as full member. Celebrations on May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day will start at 7.00 a.m., when Great Leader Ataturk arrived in northern Samsun province 85 years ago. The state ceremony in which Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will attend will start at 9.00 a.m. in Anitkabir, Ataturk's Mausoleum.

HIDDEN CRISIS DURING EUROVISION
It has been revealed that ''Constantinopolis crisis'' caused by the Greek Cypriot compere was prevented in the last minute during the Eurovision Song Contest successfully organized by Turkey. The hidden crisis occurred during the rehearsal. When Turkey was connected to the Greek Cypriot side in the first rehearsal, the Greek Cypriot compere said, ''hello Constantinopolis.'' Turkish compere Korhan Abay corrected words of the Greek Cypriot compere saying, ''it is Istanbul for the last 500 years.'' The Greek Cypriot compere continued his insistence in the second rehearsal. This time, Abay said, ''hello South Cyprus'' instead of ''Cyprus.'' Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was informed about ''Istanbul crisis.'' European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which intervened in the crisis warned the Greek Cypriot compere.

BOMBS HAVE COME
American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) conveyed an urgent message to Turkish Directorate General of Security. The message says that Al Qaida is planning terrorist activities during NATO Summit which will be held in Istanbul between June 27 and 28. Saudi Arabian Muhammad Mustafa is coordinating the activity.

VETO SIGNAL FROM SEZER
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer gave the hints that he would veto Higher Education Board (YOK) law in his message which was issued for May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day. Sezer said that institutions of the state should be sensitive about the unity of education. He stressed that the education was a state policy and it was settled on modern, scientific and secular basis.

EU: SPEED UP IMPLEMENTATION OF REFORMS
Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul attended the meeting of Turkey-European Union (EU) Association Council in Brussels. Association Council, which is the highest decision-taking branch between Turkey and the EU, gave the message that Turkey should speed up implementation of reforms. Gul said that reform process was still continuing and Turkey would put the reforms into practice.
VETO MESSAGE FROM SEZER
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer warned the government in his message to mark May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day as if he was stating for which reasons he would veto Higher Education Board (YOK) law. Noting that the problem stemmed from different description of secularism, Sezer said that the citizens would clamp against the threat to Republic.

ATTACK ON POLICE HEADQUARTERS IN PERVARI, ONE POLICE DIES
One police officer and one guardian died during the attack of terrorists in Pervari town of Siirt province. A group of terrorists opened fire to a police check point and surrounding buildings last night. Police officer Cumali Hakan and guardian Cihan Aydogdu were killed. Police officer Huseyin Lukoglu was injured in the attack.

MARCH OF INDEPENDENCE
May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day is being celebrated throughout Turkey, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and in Turkey's representations in foreign countries. Celebrations will start at 7.00 a.m., when Great Leader Ataturk arrived in northern Samsun province 85 years ago. The state ceremony in which Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will attend will start at 9.00 a.m. in Anitkabir, Ataturk's Mausoleum. Two separate groups of young people, formed by members of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and Ankara University's Students' Council, and the members of Kemalist Thought Association and Ankara State Theater, will call for ''fully independent Turkey'' from Anitkabir at different hours. Youth will protest torture in Iraq, Greater Middle East project, Higher Education Board (YOK) and public management laws.

SEZER'S MAY 19 MESSAGE FULL OF WARNINGS
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, in his message to mark May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day, drew attention that state institutions should be sensitive about protection of the principle of secular education and unity of education. Sezer said, ''every organ should be aware of limits of its authorities'' as a response to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's words, ''we will use the sovereignty right with the authority given to us by the nation.''

LAST OBSTACLES BEFORE NEGOTIATION DATE
The European Union (EU) thinks that Turkey had six main deficiencies. Ankara's homework is to ensure religious freedom and strong jurisdiction, end shortcomings related with Democracy Party (DEP) case, broadcasting in Kurdish and general practices, and fulfil banking reform.

NEW ADJUSTMENT PACKAGE: LAST CHANGES ON ROAD TO EU
The military member in the Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) will be excluded from the board in order to get a negotiation date from the European Union (EU). Turkey will strengthen practices on the road to the EU. Last arrangements to be made in order to get a negotiation schedule from the EU at the end of this year have been listed. Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul asked the ministers to help overcome problems in practice.

REBELLION IN CHP
Thirty Republican People's Party (CHP) deputies, who oppose to the CHP administration and say that CHP failed in the local elections, issued a statement yesterday and called on CHP leader Deniz Baykal to resign. These deputies also called for an extraordinary general assembly meeting.

DEPUTIES TO LOBBY FOR EU MEMBERSHIP BY VISITING COUNTRIES
After the initiatives of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul for the European Union (EU) membership, Turkish parliament started to take action. Deputies, who are members of three promotion groups at parliament, will visit 24 EU countries and give the message that Turkey has gained the right to start membership negotiations.

SEZER SIGNALS FOR VETO OF YOK LAW
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer issued a message on the occasion of May 19 Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day and he signaled that he would veto Higher Education Board (YOK) law which was adopted at parliament.
