BRUSSELS - Turkey was ready to contribute to ''Headline Goal 2010'' project of the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP), Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said on Monday.
Gonul, who delivered a speech at the meeting of European Union (EU) defense ministers, congratulated the EU on accomplishing its enlargement process.
Turkish National Defense Minister Gonul said that Turkey would also contribute to Stabilization Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina (SFOR), which the NATO would transfer to the EU.
Gonul later told reporters that he was asked several questions during the meeting organized by non-governmental organization named New Defense Agenda.
Turkey's approach to Afghanistan, secularism, conflict of civilizations, and terrorism were issues he stressed when replying to those questions, Gonul said.
Gonul stressed importance of NATO's adapting itself to daily conditions.
Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, who went to Belgium on Sunday, attended a conference organized by non-governmental organization, New Defense Agenda, with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Brussels and delivered a speech on ''Security in Europe from Turkey's Point of View and Turkey's Contributions to European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP)''.
In the conference, Gonul said that Turkey's accession to the European Union (EU) was of great importance for security interests of the EU.
Gonul later met with Greek Defense Minister Spilios Spiliotopoulos.
Turkish National Defense Minister Gonul is expected to return to Turkey on Tuesday.
