TBILISI - Georgia's fractured opposition on Monday agreed on a single candidate, influential businessman and government critic Levan Gachechiladze, to challenge President Mikheil Saakashvili in a snap presidential election January 5.
Former foreign minister Salome Zurabishvili will run on the ticket as Gachechiladze's candidate for prime minister, opposition leaders said at a press conference.
"We have chosen two people who will represent us inside and outside the country. Georgians have a choice between Saakashvili's team and the team of Levan Gachechiladze and Salome Zurabishvili," opposition leader Giorgi Khaindrava said.
