ANKARA - Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc left on Monday for Strasbourg to attend the Conference of European Parliament Speakers between May 17 and 19.
Prior to his departure, Arinc told reporters that the conference would bring together about 60 heads of European parliamentary assemblies.
Arinc said that the first of these conferences was held in 1975 and the conference was being organized once in every two years.
The aim of the conference was to improve cooperation among national parliaments in Europe and Parliamentary Assemblies in Europe, Arinc noted.
Arinc said that thus, the conference was contributing to development of conscious of Europeanism.
Participants would discuss how democratic their democracies were, modern technologies and democratic methods, and cooperation for a more developed democracy, Arinc stated.
Arinc added that he would have the opportunity to explain in detail Turkey's reforms and initiatives during his bilateral meetings with his European colleagues.
