Results Of Air Pollution In January Of 2004

ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE), in the extent of the environmental statistics, declared the statistics on air pollution related to the sulphurdioxide and particulate matter (smoke) concentrations of provincial and district centers in Turkey in January of 2004.
According to the data of the DIE, provincial centers having the maximum sulphur dioxide concentrations in January of 2004 are as follows in descending order; Tekirdag, Canakkale, Kutahya, Kirsehir and Agrý.
For the same period, provincial centers having the maximum particulate matter concentrations in descending order stated as; Corum, Kutahya, Agri, Isparta and Konya.
Provincial and district centers, having the maximum rate of increase in sulphur dioxide concentration in January of 2004 compared to the previous year are; Canakkale with 282 percent, Odemis town of Izmir with 148 percent, Corum with 142 percent, Bolu with 103 percent and Kirsehir with 53 percent.
For the same period provincial centers, having the maximum rate of decrease in SO2 concentration compared to the previous year are; Elazig with 74 percent, Samsun with 71 percent, Zonguldak with 60 percent, Balikesir with 51 percent and Nigde with 46 percent.
Provincial centers, having the maximum rate of increase in particulate matter concentration in January of 2004 compared to the previous year are; Inegol town of Bursa with 248 percent, Corum with 186 percent, Usak with 163 percent, Samsun with 100 percent and Bolu with 92 percent.
For the same period provincial centers, having the maximum rate of decrease in PM concentration compared to the previous year are; Bergama town of Izmir with 76 percent, Odemis town of Izmir with 65 percent, Elazig with 64 percent, Karaman with 52 percent and Izmir with 50 percent.
