ANKARA - Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said on Friday the motion (empowering the government to order the army to launch a cross border operation) that was approved in the parliament targeted terrorist organization using the north of Iraq as a safe shelter.
Gonul said if an additional budget is needed in regard to fight against terrorism, the matter would be debated in detail, replying to questions of parliamentarians during talks on the 2008 budget in the parliament.
"The motion that was approved in the parliament does not target territorial integrity of Iraq, legitimate political formation in Iraq or any group there. It targets the organization using the region as a safe shelter. It will be implemented in accordance with the international law," Gonul said.
