ANKARA - Turkish FM and Chief Negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan said Friday that Turkey have serious doubts as regards the political will of the northern Iraqi administration in the fight against terrorist organization PKK.
In a joint press conference with the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Babacan indicated that "we are at a point where we don't need to words, but deeds."
Asked about Iran's fight against terrorist organization PKK, Babacan noted that "Iran is a neighbor of Turkey. There is a terrorist organization in Iran, namely PJAK that has strong ties to PKK.
"We are still conducting talks with Iranian authorities in the fight against PKK," told Babacan.
"The central government in Iraq has no control over north of Iraq. There are no flags of the Baghdad administration in the north. The central government does not have military presence there. The central Iraqi government's means to deal with PKK are very limited. We have doubts as regards political will of the northern Iraqi administration in the fight against PKK," told Babacan. "Statements by leaders in north of Iraq extend support and sympathy to PKK," he also stressed .
According to Babacan, the key player in the fight against PKK is the U.S..
Meanwhile, secretary Rice indicated that the United States is present in Iraq. We, as the U.S., have an obligation to help Turkey in its fight against terrorist PKK, told Rice.
"We want to be effective (against PKK) and want to get results," she underlined .
Rice noted that the U.S. does not support the division of Iraq. Territorial integrity is highly important, said Rice.
In response to a question on stability in Iraq, Rice underscored that terrorist acts staged from north of Iraq are "not acceptable."
Answering a question on a bill brought up at the U.S. House of Representatives supporting Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915, Rice stressed that the U.S. administration is against the bill.
