International Istanbul Music Festival To Be Held Between June 4 And July 8

ISTANBUL - The 32nd International Istanbul Music Festival will be held between June 4 and July 8, Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation (IKSV) said on Thursday.
IKSV Chairman Sakir Eczacibasi told a press conference that a concert would be held at Kariye Museum this year.
Twenty-seven events will take place during the festival. The theme of this year's festival is ''Baroque Music.''
Five baroque music bands from different countries will perform many pieces from Bach to Handel, from Vivaldi to Pergolesi.
The festival will start with a concert to be given by Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gurer Aykal at the St. Irene Museum on June 4.
Kariye Museum is a 11th century church of St. Saviour of Chora. It is the most important Byzantine monument in Istanbul. The walls are decorated with superb 14th century frescoes and mosaics, on a golden background. The church is a remarkable museum of Byzantine art. Here you will find a quiet, carefully tended garden facing old wooden houses, where you can enjoy your tea or coffee in peace.
St. Irene Museum was the first church in Istanbul, built by Constantine in the 4th century and rebuilt by Justinian. It is reputed as the site of a pre-Christian temple.
