ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister & Chief Negotiator for the EU talks Ali Babacan said Thursday Turkey would not retry mechanisms which were tried and failed beforehand.
Babacan told reporters at the Foreign Ministry that many methods were tried both with the U.S. and Iraq's central government in the past period to deal with terrorist organization.
"We could not get a result from any of them. The problems did not abate, on the contrary swelled. The government does not want to lose time from now on. We want to talk about tangible matters and rapid steps from now on," he noted.
Babacan said there was a U.S. presence prevailing in Iraq and a central government. "Whatever the intention of this government is, it does not have much ability regarding the north of Iraq and PKK. There is a separate formation in north of Iraq and we have doubts about the will of this formation in fight against terrorism. Statements that are made from time to time extend an indirect support and sympathy to the terrorist organization."
"Political will and physical facilities should get united to deal with terrorism. Only good-will does not yield a result, unless the two in question unite," Babacan said.
Babacan emphasized Turkey's decisiveness on the matter, and said, "we hope everybody sees our determination and understands what we suffer from, the pains and hatred. We want to see solid steps be taken and hope our interlocutors understands the seriousness of this job."
"Related institutions are very closely following every kind of development about those 8 soldiers," Babacan said in a reply to a question on the missing Turkish soldiers.
A group of PKK terrorists ambushed Turkish troops on October 21st in Daglica village in southeastern province of Hakkari, killing 12 soldiers and wounding 16 others. 8 Turkish soldiers were reported missing after the ambush.
