ISTANBUL - The 20th meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) Follow-up Committee ended in Istanbul, Turkey on Thursday.
The committee discussed several reports in its last session.
Participants of the meeting took up developments in implementation of an economic cooperation action plan, increase of trade among member countries, and trade negotiations aiming to establish a preferential trade system in the meeting.
The committee also took up ways to facilitate trade and transportation among member countries, issues related with activities of the World Trade Organization (WTO), meetings and trade fairs among private sectors of OIC member countries, and cooperation among stocks exchanges of OIC member countries.
Preparations for the 20th COMCEC meeting also to be held in Istanbul between November 23 and 25 were also discussed at the meeting.
The committee decided to hold a meeting of private sectors of member countries and trade fair in Bahrain between February 5 and 9, 2005 and called on private sectors of OIC member countries to be encouraged to join these events.
Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener had opened the 20th Meeting of OIC COMCEC Follow-up Committee on May 11.
OIC was established on September 25, 1969 on the occasion of the first Conference of the Muslim World which was held in Rabat, capital of Kingdom of Morocco.
Presently, OIC operates with 55 members comprising of: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
