NEW YORK - United Nations (UN) Secretary General Kofi Annan was expected to present Cyprus report to the Security Council towards the end of the following week, high-level UN sources said on Tuesday.
High-level UN sources told A.A correspondent that Annan would present the Cyprus report which would shed light to future steps to the Council towards the end of the following week.
The UN Security Council is foreseen to take a decision within one or two weeks after the report is presented.
Sources drew attention to importance of attitude to be assumed by Russia, France and China who had earlier assumed an attitude in favor of Greek Cypriots, after the report is unveiled.
After Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat had successful meetings in New York and Washington aiming to end isolation of the Turkish Cypriots, Kofi Annan is expected to shape up his report in this direction and reflect the realities.
Talat had stated that Cyprus report to be presented to the Security Council by Annan would shed light to future steps.
TRNC Prime Minister Talat had also said that it was no more possible to consider the Greek Cypriot administration as the ''Cyprus Republic'' and noted that the Secretary General would probably call on countries to end isolation of Turkish Cypriots.
TRNC and Greek Cypriot side voted UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem in simultaneous referenda held on April 24.
Sixty-five percent of Turkish Cypriots voted ''yes'' to the Annan plan while 35.09 percent voted against the plan in the simultaneous referenda. A total of 75.83 percent of the Greek Cypriots said ''no'' to the plan while 24.17 of them voted ''yes.''
The rate of participation in the referendum was 84.35 in TRNC and 96.53 percent in the Greek Cypriot side.
Thus, Annan plan was not put into practice in the island.
