WASHINGTON - Turkish-U.S. Interparliamentary Friendship Group Executive Board headed by Justice and Development Party (AK Party) parliamentarian Egemen Bagis met with U.S. National Security Council Senior Director for European and Eurasian Affairs and U.S. President George W. Bush's special assistant Dan Fried at the White House on Monday.
During the visit to the United States, which aims to increase dialogue between Turkish and U.S. parliaments, Bagis is accompanied by Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies Ziyaeddin Akbulut, Abdullah Torun, Atilla Koc and Republican People's Party (CHP) deputies Damla Gurel and Sukru Elekdag.
Delegation members will meet on Tuesday with officials from ''The Livingston Group'' that carries out lobbying activities for Turkey and later have a meeting with U.S. House of Representatives Texas Congressman Tom Delay from the Republican Party. The delegation that will attend a round-table meeting at think-tank organization Nixon Center will partake in luncheon that the American-Turkish Council will host.
During their stay in Washington this week, Turkish parliamentary delegation members will meet with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's assistant Scooter Libby at the White House and have a meeting with Assembly of Turkish-American Associations leaders.
The delegation will also have a meeting with Turkish friendship group members in the U.S. Congress. The delegation members are expected to meet with U.S. Under Secretary of State Marc Grossman on Thursday and later proceed to New York.
The delegation members who will attend traditional ''Turkish Day Parade'' in New York are expected to depart from the United States for Turkey on Sunday.
