ATHENS - Greek President Costis Stephanopoulos received Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is paying an official visit to Greece, on Friday.
Stephanopoulos expressed pleasure to see Erdogan again and said that he last met with Erdogan in Chalkidiki, where European Union (EU) summit was held.
Erdogan's visit was very important for improvement of Turkish-Greek relations, Stephanopoulos said.
Stephanopoulos added that Erdogan's close relationship with Greek Prime Minister Costas Caramanlis was facilitating talks between two countries.
Erdogan thanked Stephanopoulos and conveyed good will messages of Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan will later lay a wreath on Monument of the Unknown Soldier and meet with Greek Parliament Speaker Anna Psarouda-Benaki.
