Annan Expected To Present His Report On Cyprus To Security Council

NEW YORK - UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is expected to present his report on Cyprus to the UN Security Council in the third or fourth week of May, sources said.
Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent on Thursday that the UN Security Council was envisaged to make a decision one day after presentation of the report and that the decision of the council was expected to be in line with the new realities in Cyprus.
UN diplomatic sources stressed that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mehmet Ali Talat had held quite successful meetings in New York and Washington on lifting of isolation of Turkish Cypriots and that Annan's report and council's decision were expected to be given shape under those meetings.
Confirming that U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell had called Talat ''Mr. Prime Minister'' during his meeting with him, UN sources stressed importance of invitation of Talat to the United States and his meeting with Powell in terms of steps towards lifting of isolation and recovery of Turkish Cypriots' situation.
