IZMIR - Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) Chairman Tevfik Bilgin met on Wednesday with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Acting Managing Director Anne Krueger.
Following the meeting, Bilgin told reporters that it was an acquaintance meeting.
Bilgin said that banking sector constituted 70 percent of the Gross National Product (GNP).
Banking sector had an important place among reforms made by Turkey, Bilgin noted, adding that he informed Krueger about the recent developments and current situation of banking sector.
Krueger, who came to Aegean Izmir province to attend the Fourth Turkish Economy Congress, met with Turkish State Minister Ali Babacan.
In the meeting, Krueger said that efforts of the Turkish government to reduce inflation, to achieve primary surplus target and make financial reforms were important.
