ANKARA - Turkish Parliamentary Human Rights Inquiry Commission Chairman Mehmet Elkatmis said on Wednesday that the Commission would condemn maltreatment of Iraqi prisoners and called on the Commission for an extraordinary meeting.
Elkatmis held a news conference and described the maltreatment of Iraqi prisoners as ''violence''. He said, ''at the extraordinary meeting, we will condemn the maltreatment and discuss what can be done.''
Defending that the United States did the same thing in Guantanamo Naval Base before, Elkatmis said, ''what really upsets us is that the world public and international organizations remain silent and indifferent toward what has been done. They failed to show necessary reaction. I can't understand why the world remains silent against those? As the human rights defenders, it is impossible for us to accept those.''
