Ankara To Host 10th International Caricature Festival

ANKARA - The Tenth International Caricature Festival will start in Ankara on May 7, 2004.
A total of ten caricature exhibitions will be opened in the capital during the five-day festival organized jointly by the Directorate of Press and Information and the Caricature Foundation.
Holding a press conference, Press and Information Deputy Director General Nuray Altan recalled that the first international caricature competition was held in 1974.
Altan stressed, ''the target of the festival is to promote Turkish humor and tolerance to the whole world. We believe that works of both Turkish and foreign caricaturists will further consolidate concepts of friendship, co-operation, tolerance and peace.''
Meanwhile, Caricature Foundation Chairman Nezih Danyal said that 485 caricatures from 50 different countries would participate in this year's festival.
Danyal recalled that Janusz Kapusta of the United States had won the biggest prize this year.
