Every Society Should Renew Its Constitution, Bildt

ISTANBUL - Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said on Saturday that every society should renew its constitution in a specific period of the history in line with the modern realities and their needs.
Bildt responded to the questions of reporters after attending "4th Bogazici Conference" jointly organized by British Council, Center for European Reform (CER) and Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) in Istanbul.
Asked about Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, Bildt said the article caused very big problems for Turkey, stating that, "we hope Turkey will act like the other European Union (EU) member countries. All those are in the interest of Turkish people."
Bildt said Mediterranean Union was a matter that has not been defined yet, and stated that, "I don`t think this is considered as an alternative to negotiation process. We already have close relations with the countries around the Mediterranean."
"We are heading towards a more global and modern Europe. We make amendments in my hometown for the modernization of the constitution. This is a natural process," he remarked.
