VOA- Many foreign staff members of a Western energy company doing work in Saudi Arabia are leaving the country, following a brutal attack by gunmen who killed five Westerners and one Saudi national.
Officials with the Swiss-based firm ABB-Lummus said Sunday the workers have decided to leave Saudi Arabia because of the deadly incident.
The victims of Saturday's attack in the northwestern Saudi city of Yanbu included two Americans, two Britons and one Australian. At least three other employees were wounded.
The Saudi Interior Ministry says three of the four gunmen involved had worked at the complex where the attack took place. All four were killed by Saudi police, who gave chase after the attack. At least one Saudi policeman was killed.
Authorities have yet to identify the gunmen or give a possible motive for the attack.
The U.S. State Department has renewed its recent warning that terrorists might try to attack American interests in the Middle East. The oil facility where Saturday's attack occurred is jointly owned by the Saudi company SABIC and the U.S. energy giant ExxonMobil.
Saudi Arabia has been battling a wave of Islamist militancy for the past year. An April 21 car bombing in Riyadh killed five people and wounded nearly 150 others.
More than 50 people were killed in suicide bombings in Riyadh last year.
