Turkey: Those Responsible For Acts Of Terrorism In Spain Were Deported From Turkey

ANKARA - Deputy Chief of Police Department and Police Department spokesman Ramazan Er has said, ``Moroccan people who were involved in acts of terrorism in Spain, had been deported from Turkey.``
Speaking at a weekly press briefing at the Police Department in Ankara, Er said on Friday, ``those who were involved in acts of terrorism in Spain, had been detained in Fatih district of Istanbul in 2000 for violation of visa. There had not been any arrest warrants against them. Therefore, they had been deported from Turkey.``
A total of 190 people were killed and more than 1 thousand 800 others were injured when 10 bombs concealed in backpacks ripped through four crowded commuter trains during the morning rush hour of March 11, 2004 in Madrid. The youngest victim was a baby girl, aged 7 months. The attacks were the worst to target a western country since the suicide airliner attacks in New York and Washington on September 11, 2001.
