WASHINGTON - Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will visit the United States on Monday to meet with the U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell.
Talat will later proceed to Washington and address think-tank organization Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Talat is also expected to have meetings with the leading officials of U.S. Congress during the visit.
Observers in Washington said the decisions made by the European Union (EU) and Council of Europe (COE) failed to satisfy the Turkish Cypriot side following the twin referendums held in Cyprus on April 24. The observers said Talat would ask for an active support during his meetings with U.S. officials to ease difficulties that the TRNC had been facing.
