Cicek: Greek Cypriot Side Prevented Two Communities From Living Together

ANKARA - Turkish Justice Minister Cemil Cicek has said, ''the twin referendums in Cyprus on April 24 have revealed that it was the Greek Cypriot side which prevented the two communities in the island from living together.''
In an interview with the A.A, Cicek said on Thursday, ''both Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have done everything in their power to find a fair and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue. Turkish Cypriot people have put forward their will and determination to act together with the international community by supporting United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan. The twin referendums in Cyprus on April 24 have revealed that it was the Greek Cypriot side which prevented the two communities in the island from living together.''
''In the past, TRNC was considered the responsible side for insolubility. Therefore, the United Nations and the other international organizations did not recognize TRNC. They have imposed embargoes on TRNC for years. Now, TRNC wants all these embargoes, bans and restrictions to be lifted. We want the international community and states to keep their promises which they pledged before the referendums,'' Cicek added.
