ANKARA - Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Spokesman Namik Tan has expressed Turkey's concerns over recent developments in Iraq, and called on the sides to act moderately.
Speaking at the weekly press conference at the MFA, Tan said on Wednesday that Turkey had been monitoring both positive and negative developments in Iraq.
Pointing out that Turkey attributed importance to Iraq and developments in Iraq, Tan said, ''we are extremely concerned over recent developments in Iraq. We propose all relevant sides to act moderately.''
''We have been trying to make all kinds of contributions to efforts to provide stability and peace in Iraq. Our humanitarian and economic aid has been continuing,'' he said.
Stressing that all ethnical groups in Iraq should be represented fairly in the political process, Tan highlighted importance of fair representation of all ethnical groups in regard to success of the political process and legitimacy.
Noting that Turkey had also been monitoring efforts of United Nations' Special Envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi and his team, Tan said that Turkey had been holding perpetual meetings with Brahimi.
Tan added that Turkey expected the United Nations to display a more active approach.
