Erdogan May Attend Accession Ceremony Of New E.U. Members

ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan might attend the ceremony to be held upon the accession of ten countries to the European Union (EU) on May 1, Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday.
However, Gul told reporters, whether or not Erdogan would attend the ceremony was not immediately definite.
Gul said that Turkey had continued its efforts to enable EU member countries to fulfil their commitments about Cyprus issue.
Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary had met with ambassadors of EU member countries to Turkey, Gul noted.
Gul stated that he talked to foreign ministers of EU member countries and would continue such meetings.
''This week is very important. We continue our efforts to prevent promises from remaining on paper,'' Gul said.
Gul added that Erdogan might attend the ceremony to be held for accession of ten countries to the EU on May 1.
Ten countries including Estonia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Greek Cypriot side, are expected to join the EU on May 1.
