LEFKOSA - U.N. Secretary General's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto has said that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat was a ''foresighted leader who motivated his people for unification''.
De Soto paid a farewell visit to Talat at the TRNC Prime Ministry Office on Monday. Also TRNC Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas attended the meeting which lasted for nearly one hour.
De Soto said that he wanted pay a visit of courtesy to Talat and that he closely worked with Talat and Serdar Denktas in recent period. De Soto said that Talat was a modern, concerned and foresighted leader who motivated his people for unification and reflected his opinions.
Asked whether a second referendum would be held, De Soto said it was time to review results of referendums.
Asked whether his first ever visit to the TRNC Prime Ministry Office had included a message, De Soto recalled that U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Sir Kieran Prendergast and he had visited the TRNC Prime Ministry Office earlier.
