PHUKET - Nine French citizens were killed and one survived when a Thai passenger jet crashed and burst into flames on the holiday island of Phuket, an embassy official said Wednesday.
"Altogether, 10 (French) people were on board," Jean-Luc Delvert, counsellor at the French embassy in Bangkok, told AFP in Phuket.
"Four people were identified by family," he said, adding that five were still in the process of being identified.
Delvert said one French man who survived had undergone surgery and remained in hospital on the southern resort island.
One-Two-Go, which operated the doomed jet, has said 52 foreigners were among the 89 people who died when its MD-82 aircraft crashed in bad weather on Sunday afternoon.
Citizens from Iran, Britain, Australia, Germany, Sweden and Ireland were also among the dead.
