LEFKOSA - United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan`s Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto will close his office in Cyprus mid-May, a U.N. official said on Monday.
A U.N. official told A.A correspondent that the U.N. office in Cyprus would be closed mid-May and U.N. personnel would gradually depart from the island.
De Soto said on Saturday that he would leave the island this week in order to present his report to Annan, adding that he would pay farewell visits in Cyprus within this week.
U.N. Secretary General Annan`s Special Envoy to Cyprus de Soto will pay farewell visits to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat and TRNC Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas later on Monday.
