ISTANBUL - Serdar Bilgili, the Chairman of Besiktas soccer club of Turkey, announced on Monday that he would resign since Besiktas fans cursed at him during Besiktas' match with Fenerbahce.
Bilgili told a press conference that Besiktas soccer club would hold an extraordinary general assembly meeting within a month.
Noting that he did not deserve curses of Besiktas fans during the match that Besiktas played with Fenerbahce on Sunday, Bilgili said that he would not run his candidacy for chairmanship of Besiktas soccer club in the extraordinary general assembly meeting.
Bilgili stated that Besiktas Executive Board would convene in the afternoon and take a decision about the extraordinary general assembly meeting.
He wanted to hold the extraordinary general assembly as soon as possible in order to give time to the forthcoming Besiktas administration to transfer new players, Bilgili added.
Besiktas was defeated by Fenerbahce 3-1 in a home match on Sunday. Serhat scored Fenerbahce's two goals while the other goal of Fenerbahce was hit by Tuncay. Ilie of Besiktas scored the only goal of Besiktas in the match.
Besiktas soccer club is ranked the third in the Turkish Superleague at the end of the Week-31 while Fenerbahce is in the first place.
