ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who also acts as leader of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has said that Turkey would always support Turkish Cypriot people. Speaking at the meeting of the AK Party, Prime Minister Erdogan said on Sunday, ''as you know, Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot peoples put forward their free wills by casting their votes about United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. While Turkish Cypriots voted 'yes', Greek Cypriots cast their votes against the plan. We respect for decisions of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot peoples. I hope that their decisions will bring forth positive consequences.'' ''Actually, we wished both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot peoples to vote 'yes' in the referendums. I am quite sure that the world would fairly assess the peaceful and sincere attitude of Turkish Cypriot people. It is a fact that the Turkish Cypriot side has always in favor of finding a solution in the negotiation process. I believe that it had changed the image of the Turkish Cypriot side in the world,'' he said. Prime Minister Erdogan noted, ''now, we expect the international community to display the same constructive attitude with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). We consider the developments in the island a very important step in regard to our diplomacy.'' (UK) 25.04.2004
