LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat has said that TRNC President Rauf Denktas's resignation would be the appropriate thing against result of the referendum in the TRNC, adding, ''Mr. President does not have any place in coming period.''
Speaking to the A.A correspondent on Saturday, Talat said that he was pleased with the result of the referendum in the Turkish Cypriot side but he deeply regretted the result in the Greek Cypriot side, stressing that the international community should fulfil its responsibility.
Noting that they should take important steps in relations with the European Union (EU), Talat said that they were pleased with the attitude of many EU officials in recent period.
Stating that they said ''yes'' to a plan which was backed by the international community and it should be evaluated by the international community, Talat added, ''the side which accepts the Annan plan is outside the EU while the side which rejects the plan joins the EU with the claim of being the representative of the other side. It is out of question. I suppose that this strange and contradictory situation which has happened for the first time in history is the thing that the international community has to solve.''
PRESIDENT DENKTAS: ''THERE IS NO REASON FOR MY RESIGNATION''
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas has said that he was against the Annan Plan as he believed it aimed to destroy the TRNC state and announced that there was no reason for his resignation after Turkish Cypriots accepted the plan and that he would not resign.
Speaking to reporters at press center in Lefkosa, Denktas said that existence of the TRNC state continued as the Greek Cypriot side rejected the plan, adding that Annan Plan separated people.
Denktas called on people to unite on the light of new developments.
