BRUSSELS - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal attended the Sixth Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium on Friday.
Baykal told reporters that they worked on issues concerning Turkey in the congress, and stated that all of them were waiting for Turkey's starting its membership negotiations with the European Union (EU).
Stating that some new problems on this issue started to appear, Baykal said, ''social democrat parties have started making statements including new concerns about Turkey's membership to the EU. We carried out a work against it. There was a report which was prepared. It included some issues which will disturb Turkey on the issue of enlarging Europe. We have worked to change those issues.''
