De Soto: If A Result Is Not Taken In Referendum, No Tools Will Remain For Solution

ANKARA - United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto said on Friday that if a result was not taken in the referendum to be held in Cyprus on Saturday, no tools would remain for solution.
De Soto made evaluations at private CNN-TURK TV Channel on the eve of the referendums in Cyprus.
When asked whether he thought both sides would vote 'yes' in referendum, De Soto said that he could not make any foresight regarding the results.
Noting that there was not any ''Plan B'', De Soto said that if a result was not taken in referendum and leaders could not explain their people that consensus was the solution, no tools would remain for solution. Then it would be very difficult to see what would happen, added De Soto.
When asked whether a second referendum would be in question, De Soto said that he did not know this, adding that the referendums were not held by the United Nations and recalled that referendum was an issue on which both sides agreed.
De Soto said that if a result was not taken in referendum, then Annan would like to think what it would mean and whether a consensus could be possible or not.
De Soto said that he did not understand why sides ignored that the plan was consisting good elements as well and added that he did not have any doubt that Turkey would fulfill its commitments.
